Fun activities during the Good Beer Festival
The focus of the Good Beer Festival is of course, craft beer, but we're also about good times! We hope you'll take part in some of our ‘fun' additions to enhance your festival experience.
Firkin Garden - Saturday Only
Try out unique, one-of-a-kind batches made just for the Good Beer Festival by participating breweries in the new Firkin Garden. Admission to the Firkin Garden is $5 per person.
What is a firkin you ask?
A firkin is a small wooden barrel that breweries use to make unique batches of craft beer. Firkins are traditionally unpasteurized, unfiltered and naturally conditioned in the cask in which they are made. Firkin's are served at a cool temperature but are not usually cold. 55°F is the ideal serving temperature. These small batched brews allow brew-masters to think outside the box and experiment with flavors and ingredients.
Hangover 5K (and 1.5 Mile Walk) - Sunday Only
Jumpstart your day with the Hangover 5K! The race begins at 11:30am and will lead runners through Pemberton Park's forests, meadows and wetlands. For those in need of a slower start to their day, we'll also offer a 1.5 mile walk.

The Good Beer Festival brings great craft beers to the masses; and now we want YOU to bring your great home brews to us! This Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP)-sanctioned event will bring professional judges together to rate the creations of home brewing enthusiasts. Judging will take place using the BJCP Style Guidelines, as this is a BJCP sanctioned event. Please use these guidelines to enter the appropriate style of beer. Competition is only open to non-commercially brewed beer.
Prizes: Judges will grade the beers on a point system that includes aroma, appearance, flavor, mouth feel and overall impression. Winners will be selected from each style/category, those selected will then compete for Best of Show. Best in Show: 1st Place - $300, 2nd - $200, 3rd $100; 1st-3rd place ribbons for categories.

Learn How to Home Brew
Sunday; 2:30pm in the Home Brew Competition Area
Looking to get started in home brewing? Or have tried it yourself and have a few questions? Doug Griffith of Xtreme Brewing has the answers and the supplies you'll need. Check out his online shop at www.xtremebrewing.com.
Relax with friends over a leisurely game of cornhole. We'll have 10 sets available this year, so there is plenty of space to play. Not familiar with the game? It goes by many names including corn toss, bean toss, and more. If that still doesn't ring a bell, you'll pick it up very quickly if you've ever played a game of horseshoes!
Not up for being a part of the action yourself? Well swing by the Sports Zone where you can sit-back, relax and enjoy the weekend's biggest games! Stay tuned – we'll post a schedule of games as the festival nears.
Before you start to play, be sure to purchase a full pint of your favorite brew (only $4) so you don't go thirsty!
Taster's Choice Award
Let us know which brewery is your favorite! With over 50 breweries to choose from, the decision will be difficult – but we want to know which brewery you like best.
How it Works
All tasters will receive a ‘ballot’ with their sampling glass upon entering the festival. All pouring stations will have a mason jar for each brewery available at that station. Once you find your favorite, simply drop your vote into the mason jar for that brewery. Voting will close by 4:00pm on Sunday. The Taster's Choice Award will be announced on Sunday at 5:00pm, right before the last band takes the stage. The winning brewery will win a trophy and a spotlight at next year’s festival.
